Looking out on the piazza of medieval village S. Donato in Poggi, along the road leading to Siena from Florence, Palazzo Malaspina is a distinguished and welcoming Bed & Breakfast in the late-Renaissance style which within its walls treasures the even older Roman castrum built for defensive purposes.
The palazzo housed the noble families Tocci and Malaspina, and is now owned by family Pellizzari. The latter restored Palazzo Malaspina leaving its ancient structure intact. In the kitchen you can admire what's left of a 19th century window used to draw water from a well which is now in the basement. The five available bedrooms ? which once were the rooms and shops of the old castle ? feature antique furniture belonging to the family, and have been personalized in a refined and warm way, with tapestry and furniture inspired by the colours of Tuscan landscapes.
Guest are greeted with delectable breakfasts consisting of homemade sweets and marmalades ? such as the one made with onions and tomatoes, particularly good if combined with Tuscan pecorino cheese. This Bed & Breakfast offers the possibility of booking tasting expeditions to the nearby farms, where you can also decide to stop for lunch.
Palazzo Malaspina is an ideal spot to spend a refined and relaxing vacation in the heart of Tuscany, pampered by the warm colours of the surrounding country, the hearty flavours of local dishes, and the plentiful art of neighbouring Florence, Siena and San Gimignano.
